Update 4 Series (1.04.0)

This update introduces several brand new high level dungeons to the Hyborian world such as ‘Xibaluku’, ‘The Slaugherhouse Cellar’, ‘Cradle of Decay’ and also opening up an additional part to the level 80 raid dungeon ‚Black Ring Citadel’. And there is a series of other significant updates to various game mechanics like raid loot options and GUI updates, PvP resources for tradeskills, tweaking of several raid boss encounters and quests.

New Dungeons

Headlining the bill in this update is a lot of great new high level content whether you are looking for some solo fun, an engaging group activity or ready to face some new raid challenges!

Thunder River is the location of the new level 80 dungeon instance for small groups. The Acheronians called it ‘Xibaluku’, and the Picts have found the blood magic of the Acheronians and seek to make the power their own. Xibaluku contains up to a dozen boss encounters, some are essential to progress while others are completely optional but all have been designed to try and provide a really dynamic and changing experience in the dungeon. Some of the bosses may even appear with different abilities or in different forms across different visits!

To gain access to Xibaluku players must first dare the brand new solo experience in ‘The Slaughterhouse Cellar’ at level 80 also in the Thunder River playfield. Players will have to go there on their own to look for the mysterious shards made out of an unknown metal, which can only be found in the cellar. But the ghosts of the fallen haunt this place and make it dangerous for both Picts as well as players.

Raiders will be happy to know there are new challenges for them to test their skills against! The ‘Black Ring Citadel’ Wing 3 raid dungeon instance is now accessible from between the already existing entrances to Wing 1 and Wing 2 and provides level 80 raid-groups with new challenges such as the sorceress Athyr-Bast and the demon Leviathus.

Last but not least: the ‘Cradle of Decay’ is a group instance that offers players around level 43 a brand new place to discover and test their mettle while hunting for experience and loot. All life seems to have been sucked out of this rotten place and the player group will have to stand up against a seductive mistress, a wrathful mother and a horrid master – among other dangers.

PVP Updates and new Lootable Resources

This update sees a massive update to the PVP systems with over fifty improvements, tweaks and additions to PvP Minigames, Massive PvP sieges and the PvP Notoriety system. The key new addition we also introduce a new game mechanic for PvP resources. This new feature will make it necessary to gather special resources in the Border Kingdoms which will be needed to build, repair and maintain battle-keeps. Adding further meaning to the open world PVP experience these new resources can be found in the Cimmerian End of the Border Kingdoms, be warned though any enemy killing you will be able to loot any PVP resources you carry from your corpse!

Raid Encounter Changes

In the ongoing process to update and improve the many raid boss encounters in the game, this update also features many adjustments to the behaviour of bosses such as Yakhmar, Kyllikki, Vistrix and others.

GUI Adjustments

Together with dozens of tweaks and adjustments to the User Interface, this update also introduces a brand new Master Loot option. This allows group leaders to designate one group member as the Master Looter who will then be in control of loot distribution during a raid. And there are also many additional options for every player to configure a personalized loot distribution during raids and group adventures.

Additional Updates

In addition to all the updates mentioned above this update brings many more changes on topics like combat, quests, items, tradeskills, mounts and guild features – just to mention a few.

Update 3 Series (1.03.0)

The main addition In this update is a huge brand new outdoor playfield called ‘Ymir’s Pass’. This new area includes a new dungeon called ‘The Amphitheater of Karutonia’. Both provide players of the levels 55 to around 63 with tons of new quests and content to explore. The playfield brings with it an exciting storyline told through a series of quests and events that occur throughout the playfield. This update also brings some more adjustments to raid bosses such as Kyllikki and Yakhmar to make those encounters a real challenge for players of the appropriate levels. And directly following player feedback, a new global chat channel is now available too.

New Playfield ‘Ymir’s Pass’

The new Ymir’s Pass playfield can be accessed from Eiglophian Mountains, Field of the Dead and Atzel’s Approach. In this new area you will find yourself thrust between different factions and caught up in an ongoing and brutal conflict. The indigenous Cimmerians and the Aesir fight against the threats of the marauding troops of the bandit king Atzel as well as the followers of the Black Ring who have found their way from Stygia. There is a dark secret waiting to be discovered by brave adventurers who are willing to find out why the earth shakes and rumbles several times every day. Does a legendary son of the frost-giant Ymir play a part in this, as the rumors spoken only in whispers at campfires throughout the whole region seem to imply?

New Dungeon ‘The Amphitheater of Karutonia’

The Amphitheater of Karutonia origins are clouded in millennium old mysteries. Karutonia was the northernmost city of the Empire of Acheron where three kings shared the rule of the city. In the Amphitheater they held gladiatorial contests where thousands of barbarians were sent unarmed against the empires best fighters. Not before they had to watch their children and women being sacrificed to the old serpent Set. All this has long passed and is now mere legend. Something else now rules in the ruins of the Amphitheater of Karutonia. Something that seems powerful enough to enslave a true son of a god, and hold him in chains under the frozen wastes of the north.

(Previous Updates)

The PVP Consequence System is now live! This update also brings with a series of significant changes and updates to trade-skills, combat mechanics, massive PVP and GUI functionality in addition to a great new experience in the Cistern!

PVP Consequence System – The Notoriety System

This game update brings with it a major new game-play feature – a new consequence system for PVP. Off the back of the PVP leveling system introduced in the last update, this new system aims to bring even deeper meaning to PVP and introduce real consequences for your actions. Players will now run the risk of becoming a criminal or even a murderer depending on their actions in PVP.

If you take part in anti-social actions in PVP, picking on weaker foes and such you will find yourself accruing ‘murder points’ that will eventually mean the attitudes of NPCs in the world will change towards you! Murderers will be outcast from society and will have to depend on new outlaw camps which can be found at remote locations in various different playfields. You will still have access to vendors and travel through these camps, but that will now come at a cost! A consequence for being a dangerous individual!

It will be possible for those evil doers to redeem themselves however. Murderers can try to solve specific quests to lower their murder points to one day receive amnesty and loose the status of a murderer. Until that time other players can hunt down and kill murderers to punish them for their crimes. We think this system will introduce a great new dynamic to PVP game-play. Do you dare to try and live a life outside of the laws of the land? Do you have what it takes to be infamous, or indeed become famous for hunting down these most treacherous of player targets!

Revamp of ‘The Cistern’ Dungeon

Together with various other adjustments to the world design, the major changes done to the dungeon ‘The Cistern’ are something we think the players will really like and welcome. Directly listening to player feedback we changed this dungeon from a social dungeon into an instance which will give groups the chance to venture there without interruption from other players or groups. In addition the game-play, including all AI, loot and interactive environments have been improved in this dungeon and there are now also new alchemy recipes to be found there.

Changes to Trade-skills

Brand new types of armor and weapons are introduced with this update. There are so called ‘Base’, ‘Culture’ and ‘City’ armors and weapons recipes which give weapon-smiths and armor-smiths many new pieces to craft. The recipes for these new items also include new resources that Alchemists, Skinners, Weavers and Woodcutters will have to provide so working together with other player crafters and gatherers is encouraged and even necessary.

Listening to player feedback made it clear to us that especially the Alchemist profession had to get an overhaul in terms of the too high number of available alchemy recipes and needed resources to craft these sorts of items. With this update the number of alchemy resources has been reduced by about two thirds and existing recipes have been adjusted accordingly. This will make crafting for alchemists much more enjoyable and allows this profession to focus on crafting specific items and potions as an unnecessary high number of different recipes and resources made it hard to actually find what was needed.

In addition all other trade-skill resources have had their chance to drop increased which should result in players being able to gather the resources needed for recipes much easier.

Combat Updates

There are quite a few significant adjustments to the combat system for this update and we wanted to shed some light on of some of these changes here.

Firstly the way how crowd control and immunities work has been adjusted. This change now will cause players to break stuns, fears, roots, snares and charms when they have lost a certain amount of health. This should give players a fair chance to withstand these spells and fight back.

We are in this update making some changes to combos which will affect melee and ranged classes. Firstly lots of combos have fewer steps to execute now but they will also deal less damage per hit. The damage you deal should merely be distributed more evenly throughout battle than before. The second change we are making is to introduce a penalty when you miss with your directional combo strikes. This penalty will increase with the number of missed strikes.

Based on your feedback that some combos were too long to perform effectively in PVP we have reduced the number of steps on the longer combos should hopefully rectify this feeling.

Obviously this move does affect the potential damage players do, and given that we also wanted to start addressing the effectiveness of healing in combat. We approached this by giving some classes utilities to make the healing of others less efficient. As a result, the Ranger, the Demonologist and the Herald of Xotli have all received healing debuff abilities. This is obviously an area that we will track closely and if additional changes are required it will be an area that continues to get tweaks and adjustments.

GUI Adjustments and Additions

Additional possibilities for raid leaders to add and move members from different raid teams and also added more versions to display more detailed information about the team members to show different bars as well as debuffs are introduced with this update. And this is not all! Many other changes and improvements to the GUI are added and we also will continue to bring such adjustments in future updates.

Additional Changes

In addition to the content highlighted above this update brings also brings many more changes on various other topics like for example, massive PVP sieges, mounts, quests, raid encounters, items and tradeposts –to mention just some of them.
