12.0 Equipment
Read all about what sort of equipment your character and use in Age of Conan, and how it all works.
12.1 What sort of equipment will players be able to obtain?
Just about anything you can think of (at least within the limitations of the setting, no spaceships or laser beams), so swords, axes, shields, and so on. For some examples of weapons and armor, please see this page.
12.2 Will there be any items or equipment that aren’t related to combat?
Certainly. There will be lots of “social item” options. We know how important these things can be for roleplayers and we’re sure you will enjoy what you find.
12.3 Can anyone use any type of armor or weapon?
No, the ability to equip items is based on the feats you’ve obtained, and some feats can only be obtained by certain classes.
12.4 Will items decay over time?
Item decay is a controversial topic, as we know. At the moment, there are no plans to have item decay in the game.
12.5 Will players be able to make their own equipment?
Absolutely. Age of Conan sports a robust and engrossing crafting system. You can read more about it in the FAQ section on crafting, as well as in this in-depth article on the subject.
12.6 Will there be different kinds of item quality?
Items and equipment often come in different levels of quality, ranging from poor all the way up to legendary. Items with a higher quality may provide additional bonuses, do more damage, and/or offer more protection. Higher quality items will be difficult to come by.
12.7 All this talk about items. Does skill matter?
Obviously. Gear matters, to a point, but so does player skill, talent, knowing your class inside and out, faster reflexes, etc.
12.8 More is better! Tell me about dual-wielding.
Dual wielding is in the game. The classes that can dual wield, currently, are: Conqueror, Assassin, and Barbarian. The Ranger can also dual-wield, but can only equip a dagger in his off-hand.
12.9 How will equipment relate to the various races and countries in the game?
Overall, we haven’t been looking to do a lot of “race-only” equipment in the game. There will be a multitude of styles and regional looks for the equipment, as well as the culture it originates from, but this is largely visual. There will likely be no gameplay difference between the Awesome Stygian Sword of We Love Snakes and the Awesome Cimmerian Sword of We Hate Stygians.
