Friday Update: Live from Leipzig
Well, there's still a few hours to go, but we thought a little update on how things are going would be nice for this Friday's update.
Alternatively, you can go look at the latest batch of pictures and check out what's going on on the show floor (especially people clamoring for their inflatable Conan swords, as there was almost a riot for those).
One of the biggest questions we've gotten is “How are people liking the game?” MMO players are loving it, by all accounts. We even had one guy in the booth who ignored the rest of the convention, light show, booths, and girls, and played Age of Conan for six straight hours. That's six hours, on his con-weary feet, playing our game. That's a pretty cool feeling. We've also been nominated for a couple awards from the show, and the company we're in is quite distinguished, so we're incredibly pleased with the way things are going. Naturally, there have been some hitches here and there, but GC Leipzig has been very good to us and, most importantly, the people who have played the game have loved it, which is one of the most rewarding experiences a game developer can have. They are, after all, the reason we're here.
Also of interest, we've released a lot of new information, especially some hotly anticipated details on PvP, and you'll already find videos trickling out covering PvP, some of the more hotly anticipated classes (someone even got gutsy and recorded assassin footage, and while recording was certainly allowed by Funcom, I'd be watching for some black lotus powder, as assassins seldom like being recorded), mounts, battlekeeps, the mercenary system, and siege combat, so on. There's a number of threads going in the forums from attendees and Famine has been kind/ambitious/daring enough to try and compile them all here, if you'd like to take a look.
Best of all, we got to meet a lot of fans and, judging by the reactions, make a lot of new fans who liked what they saw. It's always gratifying to spend years working on something, then to have people actually play (and enjoy!) the results of all that work. We still do have a ways to go to get it ready for release, but the early signs and feedback look good, and we look forward to meeting more of you, which leads into the next question: What next?
Well, for one thing, GC is not quite over yet and we still have a few presentations to go. Some of us get to go back to Oslo and some of us get to fly to the United States to do it all again for Dragoncon, where we look forward to meeting a new batch of players and showing the game all over again. In the meantime, enjoy the pictures we took, and the videos and writeups of the presentations, and have a fantastic weekend!
