Gamespy: Age of Conan Expansion Concept Art Released!

Funcom hosted a meeting with the press at Leipzig Game Convention to give the a status update on the recently released Age of Conan! The status update included a brief glimpse into its future. THe big news is the formal announcement with the developement of the first expansion and the upcoming content updates to the game.

Ellingsen and Olsen spoke at length about upcoming content updates to the game. In response to the playerbase's complaints about sparse high-end content, Funcom will be adding two new high-level zones, and several high-level dungeons. Several existing dungeons will also be seeing some updates in order to make them more memorable -- during the demo, Ellingsen name-dropped World of Warcraft and Dungeons & Dragons Online, showcasing a strategically complex boss battle to illustrate the former's influence and some nasty traps to highlight the latter's.

Notable elements of the upcoming zones include a quest line that revolves around two warring gangs in the area called Tarantia Commons and the appearance of the titular malicious entity from Howard's popular story "The Frost Giant's Daughter" in a line called Ymir's Pass. Fans of "Conan the Barbarian" will appreciate the so-called "Wheel of Pain" nestled in a valley in Ymir's Pass, which they may remember as the wicked torture device that turned Conan from a scrawny teen into Arnold Schwarzenegger in the popular film...
